Confession time. I’m one of those crazy Christmas people that when I wake up after October 31st, I am coming alive with the Christmas cheer. I can’t help it and somehow every year my Christmas season starts that early and I manage not be burnt out in the slightest by December 25th. This year I am teaming up with my blogging partner in crime Laughing at Leigh Ann for 25 days of blogmas. Please wish us both luck as this my first year at it (hopefully not my last) and I believe her third.
What better blog to kick everything off than one about decking the halls for this time of year. I have to admit, I don’t have the space nor the doll-hairs to completely redo my living space for the season so this blog is going to be more about working with what you’ve got. I do allow myself to buy a few new special pieces every season so we’ll get into that a bit later.
For now, let’s start with the piece de resistance, the Christmas tree. I have a pre-lit synthetic Christmas tree that is an old Frontroom Furnishing piece of my moms. This old gal has been around for a many years and still looks brand new-ish. I was going to get a real tree this year because I love the smell of them but my smarter-than-me coworkers reminded me of the fire hazard that poses so I’m sticking with old faithful. I did buy some tree scented “ornaments” from Target that I will link below to give my apartment the scent of a real tree. They’ve worked like a charm so far but I would only start by hanging a couple of these guys as the ones I bought are pretty potent.
Once I get the tree fluffled (as best as I can; she’s kind of skinny) and ornamented the next thing to go up are my stockings. I got these last year at Target, they are the Hearth and Home brand and I love them! I feel like these are a good timeless option. Now, I don’t have a fireplace in my apartment so I had to get creative with how to display these. My friend Dara found these weighted decorative hooks to put on a mantel or entertainment center and they work like a dream. Pro tip though, make sure you take them down the night before Santa comes as these won’t hold the weight of all that stocking stuffer goodness.
Now I’m kind of embarrassed to say this but typically that is the extent of my Christmas decorations. My previous apartment was much smaller, so that used to be about all I had room for. Even though my new place is much bigger I probably won’t add much else but I did see a very cute candle display by The Sister Studio blog that I definitely plan to copy. Its a simple way to add in a little more Christmas cheer to your space.
Outside of that, I’m not trying to purchase much else but I do like to get some holiday scents for the season so I’m picking up some holiday scented candles like the ones above from Target! I also have these cute Christmas dog towels that I bring out each year that my mom got me from Home Goods!
What are some of your favorite holiday decorations? I know I have some favorite ornaments that I like to hang first and in easy view!
Happy holidays friends!
