Blogmas Day 5: Christmas Movies to Get you in the Spirit

Second to some jazzy Christmas tunes I love Christmas movies. Somehow, year after year, my favorites never get old. I love coming home after a long day at work, plugging in the tree, lighting a candle, and tuning into one of these movies! It really helps turn around a bad day or make me missing the sunshine not seem as rough. I’m not going to even bother ranking these because I am truly indecisive and cannot pick a favorite! Here are some go-to Christmas movies that I KNOW I will be tuning into this year…

The Santa Claus (1, 2, and 3…to infinity and beyond basically)

I love these movies. You’ve got precious Charlie even though he can be whiny at times IMO. Tim Allen is a wonder as old Saint Nick. I could go on and on and I am honestly sure most of you have seen these.

White Christmas

Now, admittedly I am on old school gal so this throwback might not be everyone’s jam but if you love old Hollywood glam and Christmas this is right up your alley.

Elf

Obviously this one has to make the list. This outrageous comedy can be such a breath of fresh air if you’ve lined up one too many Hallmark Christmas movies this year.

Christmas Vacation

Somehow I nearly manage to miss this movie every year. I’m blaming the lack of cable on this one because I KNOW AMC plays this nonstop during the holidays. Another ridiculous and amazing comedy to lighten the mood this year.

Home Alone (1 and 2…maybe 3)

Oh Kevin McCalister, his character never gets old and I love how much he loves Christmas. You can’t beat this lighthearted Christmas movie and who doesn’t love New York City during the holidays. I wish I could make it to NYC every season but this movie fills in the gaps when I can’t make it there.

Notable other favorites:

  • Miracle on 34th Street (BOTH versions)
  • Disney’s Christmas special
  • The 12 Dates of Christmas
  • The Polar Express
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (hit me with ANY version)
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Love Actually
  • Four Christmases
  • The Holiday
  • Christmas with the Kranks
  • Prancer
  • This Christmas
  • A Christmas Prince

I could go on and on! Notice how I did not include A Christmas Story. I have tried every year to enjoy this on AMC when they play it all day Christmas day and I just can’t get into it.

Did I miss any of your favorites?! Let me know in the comments!

Happy Watching! xoxo

  1. Rich would argue the only christmas movies you need are Die Hard and Nightmare Before Christmas… (I’ll allow Jack Skellington, but just because Bruce Willis saves everyone and it just *happens* to be christmas time does not make it a holiday movie!)
